A Contribution to the Mbum General History Project

Dr. Ngenge Ransom Tanyu is inviting qualified individuals of Mbum origin to contribute as co-authors to Chapter 11: Elections in Mbum-land, part of the landmark Mbum General History Project. This chapter will explore critical political developments that have shaped the Mbum people’s engagement with national governance, including:

• Electoral participation and transformation in Mbum-land
• The 1972 Referendum and its implications for Mbum society
• The resignation of President Ahmadou Ahidjo and its local significance

About the Project

The Mbum General History Project is a scholarly initiative aimed at reclaiming and reconstructing the historical narrative of the Mbum people, whose presence on the Nkambe plateau dates back to the 15th century. Supported by the Mbum Culture Project (MCP) and Ndap Yeni Ndee’rla, the project seeks to correct colonial distortions and celebrate Mbum identity through rigorous documentation and cultural revival.

Eligibility & Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be of Mbum origin.
• Demonstrate interest or experience in Mbum political history, governance, or civic engagement.
• Possess strong research and writing skills.
• Be able to collaborate constructively and meet deadlines.
• (Optional) Have familiarity with historical methodology or archival research

Important Note

This is a voluntary scholarly contribution. There are no monetary benefits associated with participation. However, selected contributors will be credited as co-authors in the completed and published work. Participation in this chapter is considered both a privilege and a responsibility—an opportunity to help document and preserve the political legacy of the Mbum people for future generations.

Timeline

The project is currently in the Data Collection Phase (July–December 2025). Contributors will assist in developing research strategies, gathering materials, and shaping the chapter’s content.
