It is not always easy as it may seem to framea research topic.

It will be good to consider a number of things when deciding on a research topic.

After settling for an area(s) of interest, you should try to do a literature search and read about what others have written in line with what you want to write. Examples of platforms that can provide you with access to academic literature include but not limited to ours, Google Scholar and Researchgate.

Narrow down your search and ask yourself what is it that most of the researches that already exists on the topic has failed to address. You can also discuss your topic with your supervisor(s) or seek the opinion of someone who has knowledge of your area(s) of interest.

For instance, you can choose a topic such as political party management in the case of political sciences. Topics already tackled could include:

1. Comparing party management practices across countries

2. Different leadership styles in party management

3. Success stories and failures in party management

4. History of political party management in Cameroon

5. How party management influences voting decision

To make sure that your topic is not a repetition of already existing studies, you might want to look at something like economic determinants of party management. You can also write a review or commentary of the already existing topics.

Keep yourself informed based on your research interest(s). There is a lot happening around the world in all disciplines that you can capitslise on to ask questions and provide answers that will advance development. Read newspapers, follow pages such as Mimi Mefo, Cameroon News Agency, BBC, Al-Jazeera, CNN, Fox News etc.

Take the miscalculated withdrawal of the US from Afghanistan for example. That could make a good research topic to show flaws in foreign policy decision-making of nation states and the limitations of military intervention.  Another example could be AFCON that will be taking place in Cameroun and how it is going to boast economic activities.

Write down your topic down in different ways to make sure that it constitutes the qualities of a 'good' research topic. Avoid using to many articles like "the", "a", "and", "an" etc.

There are important things I might have left out but the above should help you know how and where to search for a research topic.
